ShelfWisePrivacy Policy

ShelfWise (“we”, “the app”) helps you track your kitchen inventory, manage shopping lists, plan meals, and log receipts. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and the choices you have. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data.

What we collect and why
The data below is linked to your account and used to provide app functionality. With one exception — store location, which is off by default and described below — none of it is used for advertising. We never track you across other apps or websites, never share your data with third-party advertisers, and never sell your data.

You can change “Share store location” any time in Settings. |

How your data is stored
Your account data (inventory, shopping lists, receipts, meal plans, reviews) is stored on our backend provider, Supabase. Access is enforced per-account and per-household with row-level security, so your data is only visible to you and the household members you share with.
AI features
Some features (item recognition, meal suggestions, receipt parsing) send the relevant text or image to one of our AI processing providers — listed under Third-party services below — to generate a result. AI suggestions are always shown as reviewable proposals you can accept or reject — nothing is changed without your action. We only send what the feature needs, and images sent for meal suggestions are processed transiently and not retained.
Third-party services
- Supabase — backend database and authentication.
- Sentry — anonymous crash and error reporting.
- AI processing — depending on the feature, text or images are sent to OpenAI or Google (Gemini) to generate suggestions. This content is processed only to return a result to you; it is not used to train their models.
These providers process data only to deliver their service to ShelfWise and are bound by their own privacy terms.
Device permissions
The app asks for the following only when a feature needs it, and each is optional: Camera (scan fridge/pantry/receipts), Photo Library (choose photos), Microphone & Speech Recognition (voice inventory updates), Location While Using the App (store matching), and Face ID (unlock a saved session). You can change these any time in iOS Settings.
Notifications
If you enable reminders or alerts, we register your device for push notifications through Apple's Push Notification service so we can deliver the messages you've asked for. We may also occasionally send important service announcements the same way. You can turn notifications off at any time in Settings or iOS Settings.
Data retention & deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account and its associated data from within the app, or by emailing support@shelfwise.au. Deletion removes your account data from our active systems.
Children
ShelfWise is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
